About Me
I am a Salt Lake City, Utah, native and I've loved to explore the mountains and deserts of the intermountain region for as long as I can remember. Fly fishing is one of my two main hobbies (the other is organic gardening/landscaping) so I've spent a lot of time in the high country the last ten years, seeing a lot of beautiful country. This is why my current emphasis is on Rocky Mountain landscapes, though I also love the deserts and basin and range country just as much. Gardening also plays a role in my art, because as the landscaping develops I'll be doing paintings in my yard - yes, I got the idea from Monet.
"Under the Cooler" Self Portrait
I studied materials science engineering at the University of Utah and applied it to a career in jewellery manufacturing which included 20 years, self employed, as a custom jewellery manufacturer. My original goal was to have a business in jewelry (a form of miniature sculpture) which gave me an outlet for art while learning business basics. I thought I would be able to study art on the side and develop an art career (I am self taught), turned out that running the business left almost no time to study art (running the business did teach me the importance of getting it right the first time). So, I closed my business and went to work at another shop to free up time to study art. I am an emerging artist, only recently being satisfied enough with my quality to start actively selling. My goal with selling is to earn enough to allow me to paint full time.
